Dick LaBonté Anchor & Palette Gallery

The Twenties

If you look west from the ocean at Bridge Avenue, Bay Head, you will still see some of the same houses today, but everything else is different than it was at the shore in the 1920s, including the bathing suits! The house on the left was nicknamed "Ashanti" and the house on the right the "Peek-A-Boo Cottage." These two houses were favorite subjects of LaBonté's paintings. Another favorite was the boardwalk (also long gone) and the activities the artist created above, and below. Finishing the scene off with all the beach-goers, and of course, Murphy, and it’s a perfect beach day.
