The Trolley to the Mardi Gras

The fare was five cents to take the passengers on the open trolley from Bay Head to Clarks Landing. There was a gazebo like waiting room on Lake Avenue south of Mount Street. The motorman was "Dipper" Ortley and conductor Levering Tyson in 1910. Ortley's son later ran a lunchroom on Bridge Ave. In 1919 the trolley stopped running, tracks were buried under the sand on Lake Ave (they could still be seen in the 1960s) and the automobile took over the road.
