Holiday on Wall Street

Dick LaBonte retired from "Business Week" in 1979, the year the magazine celebrated its 50th birthday. (He was Director of Sales Promotion with the McGraw Hill Publishing magazine at that time). Valuing his artistic talents, they asked him to paint a business subject that could be reproduced as a gift to advertisers. Wall Street was a natural, but it was obvious he could not depict the Street in the fall of 1929, so he went back 100 years instead of 50. Of the buildings shown, only Trinity Church remains standing. The great challenge in painting this scene were all the telephone lines. Telephones were installed in the stock exchange in 1878.
