Down the Middle

After the Bay Head Yacht Club added courts, tennis became a big spectator sport, and in 1911 W. Howard Nimick kindly donated a tennis balcony. The overflow sat on the roof. Tennis has continued to be a popular sport at the Yacht Club, and if you happen to walk by the Club during a big finals match, the new balcony built after Hurricane Sandy can be filled with cheering spectators. In this painting, the artist included a duck, although not too many dare to wander on the courts anymore.
