Dede Esenlohr

"Summer Dunes and Fences", Acrylic, 24x36

"A Walk on the Beach", Acrylic, 17x26

Dede Esenlohr's acrylic nature scenes are superbly understated portrayals of an environment that she loves and is striving to preserve. A self-proclaimed naturalist and conservationist, she has chosen to use her innate talents to make her statement toward the preservation of our lands, architecture, and wildlife.

The artist's paintings reflect her unique approach. Dede returns to the same subjects - seascapes, marshes, historic buildings - over and over, discovering renewed nuances of color depending on the season, time of day or weather. She thrives on the muted colors and pastel tones that come with foggy mornings or humid overcast days. Perhaps the most striking feature of her work is the prevailing calmness and tranquility in it, yet there is decision and boldness in the dark bushes or black trees or vibrant cattails swaying in the wind. Her paintings reflect her own personality.
